Raspberry Parfait Auto
Raspberry Parfait Auto (F3)
I could absolutely gush about this project for a long time, and I did for the description of the parent generation of this 2023 release (see below).
Raspberry Parfait is such a striking aroma profile, and what a thrill it was to watch our population of 2000 plants segregate into females and males, autos and photos. This picture shows how the test plots looked on July 27, 2022. We combed the field every other day culling out duds, and chopping out males and extra photoperiod plants. We got to smell somewhere around 100 female autoflowering individuals from this project in 2022. Seed from 12 of those plants is worth taking to the next generation, and we are pleased to release this early work! Expect very loud floral, creamy, terpinolene-forward flowers that will thrive outdoors and be ready for harvest in August if started in early/mid May. We only have regular seed available, making this release a special treat for hobby auto breeders – there will be an array of traits to find within female and male plants, but they were selected aggressively for loud terps, autoflowering, and trimmable nug structure. A fantastic starting point for an auto breeding project that you can call your very own. Regular autos are also an excellent way to gain confidence in sexing plants – they show their sex organs at week 5 or 6 regardless of day length, so you don’t have to regret wasting tons of garden space on males like you would if you grew out huge photoperiods that turn out to be males.
Parfait Dropper AutoPhoto F2 (still available upon request)
It doesn’t get wilder than this as far as segregating populations go. The polar opposite of ‘stabilized’ or ‘inbred’, this F2 population is the progeny of seven stunning sister plants pollinated by four of their brothers. Their parents were an F1 of Anvil Auto and Magic Melon Auto bred with male pollen of an F1 of Purple Panty Dropper and the original Raspberry Parfait unicorn. So it’s going to be all over the map with this seed!
Like any first generation descendant from an auto and photo parents, these seven sisters were all slightly early finishing photoperiod plants. They ranged from parfait floral, to muffin, to gas, to cat piss funk – from green to pink to purple – and from baseball bat colas to widely spaced golf ball nugs. But they were the most alluring plants to most visitors in our 2021 garden. What we have in these packs is the F2 generation of an auto/photo hybrid, so along with all the characteristics above, these plants will also vary wildly for finishing time. The auto versus photo trait is not ‘discrete’, not controlled by only one gene (Mendel’s red/pink/white pea flowers are an example of a discrete trait). Rather, ripening time in Cannabis is a ‘continuous’ trait, like size in dogs. Most seeds in this pack will grow to be slightly early photos, finishing in mid-late September. Some will be fairly late, while about 5-10% will be true autoflowers, finishing as early as 80-90 days from germination, even if that falls around the summer solstice.
This is the project that I am absolutely most excited about. We will sprout no fewer than two thousand of these seeds in 2022 in pursuit of this project so that we can select aggressively for the autoflowering trait and have enough expressions among the fully autoflowering plants to start making distinct inbred lines. In producing this seed, each of seven sisters was carefully given pollen from each of four brothers, branch by branch. This gave us 28 separate accessions for our next breeding generation. This release of “Parfait Dropper” is the combined seed from the remainder of all seven plants, those branches which got nailed with collateral pollen during the hand-pollinations. So it amounts to an open pollination among this sibling group.
If you choose to swashbuckle with us, your garden will be as wild as a tall glass of ice cream, layered with berries and whipped cream, dashed across the asphalt as if dropped from the window of a speeding tourist on I-95.
Let us know if you find any super early males or females, we’ll give you pollen or dust some of our ladies with yours.
